Governor’s Back-to-School Supply Supplement


Using the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief (GEER) funds, GaDOE will distribute $125 Back-to-School Supply Supplements to eligible school employees this fall. These grants will be provided to all full-time, public-school teachers and staff members who work to provide instructional and supportive services directly to students on a daily basis.

Where to Send Questions – For Teachers & Qualifying Staff Members

I received the email with instructions from ClassWallet, but accidentally deleted it. 

I received the ClassWallet email with instructions but am having issues accessing ClassWallet.
Email help@classwallet.com or use the chat feature on the ClassWallet login screen to resolve access issues. Please note that you should only use this option if you DID receive the ClassWallet email with instructions.

I believe I am eligible for the grant but did not receive the email with instructions from ClassWallet.
Welcome emails for the fall grant are still being sent in batches. First, please ensure your local school district has submitted data to GaDOE and ensure your eligibility for the grant based on job code and title.

If your district has already submitted and you have not received the welcome email, check all junk/spam/clutter folders. 
If after completing these steps you have not received the email from ClassWallet, please email askdoe@gadoe.org with your full name, school, district, and current position.  

General FAQs – For Teachers & Qualifying Staff Members

Who is included in these grants? How was the eligible list of employees determined? 
The "Back-to-School Supply Supplement" will be provided to all full-time, public-school teachers and staff members who work to provide instructional and supportive services directly to students on a daily basis. It will amount to $125.00 for each eligible faculty member to buy materials, supplies, or other items that can be used for age-appropriate, educational purposes that support the learning, growth, or development of students. Such allowable educational purposes are to enhance classroom materials, address learning loss, mitigate the spread of COVID-19, or benefit the education of students.

For any employees not eligible for this funding stream, please know that as a top priority of Governor Kemp’s administration and GaDOE we will continue to seek additional opportunities to support our educators and educational staff where we are able.

How should the grant funds be spent? 
The funds can be spent to buy materials, supplies, or other items that can be used for age-appropriate, educational purposes that support the learning, growth, or development ofstudents. Such allowable educational purposes are to enhance classroom materials, address learning loss, mitigate the spread of COVID-19, or benefit the education of students.

What happens if funds are misused? 
The funds that are spent can be audited. Each expense is documented in the ClassWallet system. The school employee may be required to repay any or all of the grant funds received if the funds are not used for the appropriate purpose. All grant recipients will be required to sign the Affirmation of Allowable Uses below:

“I hereby affirm that all materials, supplies, or other items purchased through the ecommerce marketplace with this $125 grant (hereinafter the “Grant Funds”) will be used to buy materials, supplies, or other items that can be used for age-appropriate, educational purposes that support the learning, growth, or development of students. Such allowable educational purposes are to enhance classroom materials, address learning loss, mitigate the spread of COVID-19, or benefit the education of students. I affirm that I am a full-time employee of a local education agency, as defined in O.C.G.A § 20-2-167.1. I hereby acknowledge that receipt of these funds is conditional upon my acceptance of these terms. I further acknowledge that these funds can be audited and that I may be required to repay any or all of the Grant Funds if the Grant Funds are not used for the allowable uses set forth herein.” 

Are contracted employees at the district level eligible to receive funds?
No, the grants are intended for full-time, public-school teachers and staff members who work to provide instructional and supportive services directly to students on a daily basis. Unfortunately, we cannot accurately and responsibly provide grant funds to employees of other organizations/vendors.

Are recently retired employees eligible to receive funds? 
Employees who retired after the 2021-2022 school year and are not employed full-time by the district as of July 1 are not included.

Are new employees eligible to receive funds? 
Yes. Data collection began on July 1 to include new employees in eligible job codes.

When is the deadline for employees to spend funds?
Eligible employees must spend their funds by October 31.

Do Pre-K employees qualify for the funds? 
Yes, Pre-K employees in eligible job codes qualify for the funds. Georgia’s Pre-K (lottery-funded) Lead and Assistant Teachers and Head Start or Early Head Start lead and assistant teachers will receive grants from the Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL), not GaDOE. Any additional Pre-K or preschool employees in eligible job codes should be included in the GaDOE data spreadsheet to be paid by GaDOE.
