Student Involvement at UWM provides a wide variety of events and activities to get students connected on campus. All of these offerings fall within one of our six dimensions: Celebrate, Connect, Create, Explore, Lead and Learn. Relationships are very important to you, so it's important that you are able to build connections to other UWM students through campus involvement opportunities. This can be done by meeting each other outside the classroom in order to develop a sense of community on campus. 

We encourage you to attend our Involvement Fair in order to meet some of our student organization leaders. Some of these communities include our Spiritual & Religious life groups, Fraternity & Sorority Life, the Campus Activities Board (a student-led event planning group), and the Geek Week Planning Assembly (also a student event planning group for one of our major campus traditions).

CONNECT

Your friends and family probably describe you as someone who is ALWAYS down to try something new! You are curious to explore the world around you and are interested in learning through speakers, films, art, music, events and events that promote self-discovery.

We encourage you to check out our events and activities that promote self-discovery, such as participating in a Sociocultural Programming event, seeing a film at the Union Cinema or attending a Fall Welcome off-campus tour. You can also visit our Explore Milwaukee page to see everything to do in the surrounding community!

EXPLORE

Have you been described as a natural born leader? Are you constantly looking at new ways to develop your leadership skills and put them into practice? Or perhaps you are someone who has a passion for making positive difference in your community.   

We encourage you to check out our wide menu of offerings from Student Leadership Programs, including (but not limited to) Strengths for Students, Ignite, Sophomore Springboard, Lead the Change and Transitioning Your UWM Experience. You can also visit the Career Resource Center's Handshake website to see what student employment opportunities are available for you to apply to!

LEAD

Do you have a great passion/desire to learn and want to continuously improve? Perhaps your friends and family describe you as someone who enjoys the process of learning, rather than the outcome. You're a person who needs exposure to new information and experiences!

We encourage you to attend one of our many events or programs that facilitates learning outside the classroom, such as our Distinguished Lecture Series, participating in a workshop from the Studio Arts & Crafts Centre, or participating in a class offered by the Union Rec Center.

LEARN

You have a passion and/or natural talent for channeling creative energy. This can be done through creating art, music or film, and even through the development of bringing life to an idea or event. Some may even describe you as someone who wants to create a legacy wherever it is that life may take you.  

We encourage you to check out our Arts & Cultural units, including the Studio Arts & Crafts Centre, Union Cinema or the Union Art Gallery, which offers events, screenings and workshops throughout the year. If you're someone who has a passion for spoken word/music, you can also attend/participate in our monthly Lyrical Sanctuary event!

CREATE

Celebrate: You are the life of the party! And large events/traditions (concerts, festivals, etc.) are some of your favorite activities. You love celebrating everything life has to offer and experience joy by celebrating the accomplishments of yourself and others.

We encourage you to participate in some of our all-time favorite traditions! This includes Pantherfest/Fall Welcome, Panther Prowl 5K Run/Walk, Homecoming, Panther Pause, Geek Week and Earth Week, to name a few!
