The objective of this educational research opportunity is to participate with Tufts University for development of a novel wound dressing for acute battlefield wounds. The preferred candidate will have extensive experience in this effort for design and application of the dressing for optimized delivery and performance. This collaborative effort will allow scientists at both institutions to exchange individual experience to enhance both institutions research capabilities.
Sponsoring Agency: The U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research is one of six research laboratories within the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command of the U.S. Army Medicine Command. The Institute is the Army's lead research laboratory for improving the care of combat casualties. The mission of the Institute is to "Optimize Combat Casualty Care".
Appointment Length
This appointment is a four month research appointment, with the possibility to be renewed for additional research periods. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.
Participant Benefits
Participants will receive a stipend to be determined by USAISR. Stipends are typically based on the participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location. Other benefits may include the following:

Nature of Appointment
The participant will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DOD, or any other office or agency. Instead, the participant will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.
1-2 years experience in development of biological or biomaterial technologies to improve healing of acute soft tissue and/or burn wounds. Ph.D. in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
