AUGUSTA (WGME) -- A bill to increase the minimum wage in Maine to $15 made it through the state Legislature, but it may not get signed into law.

According to the Bangor Daily News, the proposal would boost the minimum wage from $13.80 to $15 in 2024 with an annual cost of living increase.

Democrats in the House pushed the bill through an initial 71-70 vote on Monday, according to the BDN. It advanced through the Senate on Tuesday in a 22-11 vote.

However, the Mills administration indicated the governor isn't sold on the idea. Although a spokesperson didn't commit to a veto, they told the BDN:

“She believes it is reasonable and provides much-needed predictability and certainty for employers, while also providing one of the highest minimum wages in the country for workers. She would prefer Maine continue to follow this path.”
