Outpatient Geriatric Psychiatrist 
 
The Robert Larner, MD, College of Medicine at the University of Vermont and The University of Vermont Medical Center are seeking a full-time faculty geriatric psychiatrist at the Assistant/Associate/Professor level on the clinical scholar pathway to join an enthusiastic team of professionals at The University of Vermont Medical Center and expand our geriatric psychiatry program. This 400-bed university-based general hospital includes a 28-bed state-of-the-art adult psychiatry inpatient unit and is within short walking distance of the outpatient psychiatry clinic located at University Health Center.  The University of Vermont Medical Center is the principal teaching site for residents and medical students at The Robert Larner, MD, College of Medicine at the University of Vermont.

The successful candidate will be a geriatric psychiatrist whose main focus will be to provide geriatric psychiatry consultations and longitudinal care in the outpatient setting.  Additional opportunities include expansion of telehealth services, collaborating with colleagues in geriatric medicine, and Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) if desired.  The time commitment breaks down to approximately 75% outpatient geriatric psychiatry consultations and longitudinal care and 25% nursing home consultations.   

The psychiatry department consists of 21 attending psychiatrists seeing patients in the outpatient setting with 2 geriatric psychiatrists.  Second year general psychiatry residents spend one month, full-time, in the geriatric psychiatric clinic and complete comprehensive evaluations of older adults longitudinally during their third year.  The geriatric psychiatry clinic also hosts medical students on clerkships and electives, NP/PA students, and other interested learners.  

The selected candidate will demonstrate the training and expertise to provide direct patient care, collaborate with other professional disciplines, and work with referring agencies and providers. In addition, the candidate will be responsible for supervision and teaching of house officers, medical students, and other staff. An appreciation of the importance of and satisfaction from performing these critical functions and an ability to work collaboratively are essential. Applicants must have a medical degree and be board certified (preferably) or board eligible in Psychiatry and Geriatric Psychiatry.
