The University of Vermont, Robert Larner, MD College of Medicine and the University of Vermont Health Network – University of Vermont Medical Center are seeking a full-time faculty member at the Assistant, Associate or Professor level on the clinical scholar pathway to expand substance abuse treatment and training at the University of Vermont.
 
This attending psychiatrist will join an existing team of licensed alcohol and drug counselors, nurses, and psychiatrists to treat an array of substance use disorders in programs ranging from intensive outpatient care to maintenance group therapy.  There is a highly developed research program in substance use disorders at UVM, including research on alcohol, tobacco, cocaine, stimulants, and opioids. The current position will be part of the new Center on Rural Addiction, which has funding from the Health Research Sciences Administration to improve access to treatment of substance use disorders in rural Northern New England and Upstate New York. As such, this clinician will lead an interdisciplinary team of nursing, LDAC, and peer recovery specialists to assist primary care clinics utilize best practices for substance use treatment. 
 
This faculty member will also be a key participant in the education of trainees at several levels. The University of Vermont, Robert Larner, MD College of Medicine Psychiatry Service hosts medical students on clerkships and electives, sponsors a residency in psychiatry, and sponsors a fellowship in child psychiatry.  
 
The selected candidate will demonstrate the training and expertise to provide direct patient care, collaborate with other professional disciplines, and work with referring agencies and providers.  In addition, they will be responsible for supervision and teaching of house officers, medical students, and other staff.  An appreciation of the importance of and satisfaction from performing these critical functions and an ability to work collaboratively are essential.   
 
Applicants must have a medical degree, eligible for a Vermont medical license, and be board certified/eligible in psychiatry. Fellowship training and experience in inpatient settings is very desirable. Formal addiction training or suitable experience is very desirable.
