As we return from Labor Day weekend, we are aware that some students chose to ignore university policies and health measures and attended large gatherings while not wearing face coverings and not physically distancing.
To be clear: Failure to comply with UCF’s policies for the campus and for students will result in discipline. This includes students who are found to have hosted social gatherings on or off campus; those who violate terms of their isolation or quarantine; and others who willfully violate university policies intended to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Our continued in-person experience this fall is dependent on continued compliance with health and safety measures. Here is what is needed from all UCF students, faculty and staff:
- Wearing face coverings, physical distancing, hand washing, avoiding large social gatherings, and staying home if you exhibit any symptoms of COVID-19.
- If you attended a large gathering or participated in other interactions where required health measures and university policies were not followed, get tested for COVID-19 by calling the UCF COVID Line, 407-823-2509; closely monitor for any symptoms; and fully comply with the university’s health measures to prevent the risk of spreading COVID-19.
- Daily completion of the COVID Self-Checker designed to familiarize you with the symptoms of COVID-19. All students and employees must fill out the self-checker available in the UCF Mobile app or online every day before going to work or class or participating in any activity on UCF property.
- Contacting UCF’s IntegrityLine to report students, faculty or staff for jeopardizing public health by violating UCF’s COVID-19 policies.
- Full and forthcoming cooperation with the contact-tracing process.
Earlier today we updated our COVID-19 case dashboard, which shows an increase in positive cases over the last week, including members of the UCF community not on campus. Nearly half of the cases were identified through contact tracing, which is a key process to contain and prevent further spread.
UCF has invested significant resources in contact tracing and is active in tracking and quarantining when possible spread is located. We did so this weekend, when we quarantined residents of three Greek houses and students in one class as a precaution to minimize potential exposure.
We also are closely monitoring public health conditions and have shared the campus and community trigger points for the university’s decision-making about possible additional on-campus restrictions.
We need the cooperation and compliance of the UCF community. All of us must Armor Up because it is going to take us doing our parts as individuals to create a better, healthier UCF.
