The role of Chief Information Officers (CIOs) and Chief Technology Officers (CTOs) has become increasingly crucial with the evolving technology. As we bid farewell to 2023, it's time to reflect on the dynamic shifts and noteworthy movements within the realm of executive leadership in the tech world.  

The year has witnessed a series of vital appointments, departures, and reshufflings that have sent ripples through the industry, shaping the future of organisations and influencing the trajectory of technological innovation. 

In January, IT firm Cognizant welcomed Ravi Kumar as its new CEO, succeeding Brian Humphries. Meanwhile, March saw Rajesh Gopinathan stepping down as TCS MD and CEO, with K Krithivasan set to take the helm in the next financial year.

Noteworthy movements continued in March as Mohit Joshi transitioned from Infosys to become the CEO and Managing Director of Tech Mahindra, replacing C P Gurnani. Additionally, Vaishali Kasture assumed the role of interim head of AWS India and South Asia at Amazon but later resigned in December. 

Honeywell made strategic announcements in March, appointing Vimal Kapur as the new CEO and Ashish Modi as the country president of India. Xoriant, an IT service provider, also welcomed Sukamal Banerjee as its new CEO, with previous experience as the Corporate Vice President of HCLTech. 

April brought changes to IT software company ServiceNow, with Kamolika Gupta Peres appointed as vice president and managing director for the Indian Sub-Continent. GlobalLogic, a digital services company, promoted Piyush Jha to the position of MD, head of India, and APAC.

In May, Accenture announced leadership changes in India, with Rekha M. Menon retiring and Ajay Vij and Sandeep Dutta assuming new roles. June marked the resignation of Intel India head Nivruti Rai after 29 years, with Gokul Subramaniam appointed as the new India President in September. 

July saw Sundar Subramanian appointed as the CEO of Ramco Systems, a global enterprise software company. November brought news of Genpact's CEO, NV 'Tiger' Tyagarajan, retiring in February 2024, with Balkrishan 'BK' Kalra named as the new CEO. 

Moving forward as organisations grapple with digital transformation, cybersecurity challenges, and the integration of emerging technologies, the role of CIOs and CTOs has never been more critical, making their movements a focal point of interest for industry observers, stakeholders, and enthusiasts alike.
