June 12th is the Last Day of School...have a great summer!
Checking Out for The School Year!
A Fun and Active Field Day!
Here's the Goodbye Assembly Video...goodbye and good luck to our staff and students who are moving on. Thank you for sharing, caring and learning together this year!
Food Delivery Updates
June 15th - 31: We will continue meal delivery and pickup but only 3 days a week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday. will be offering multiple days of meals each time.
July 1st- August 31st: We are still unsure, as we are waiting on waivers from the AOE and the USDA to finish that plan.
Report Cards and Grading
Without statewide and district common assessments this spring and given the challenges of collecting and grading student work remotely, we have modified our elementary and middle grades report cards. In line with the AOE guidance of April 9, 2020, Assessment in a Remote Learning Environment: Recommended Practices, we have emphasized the following guiding principles in reporting:
Communication with Families: Our K-8 report cards begin with a narrative section where your child’s teachers can speak to your child as an individual and unique learner.
Growth-Oriented Feedback: While not providing traditional grades or scoring individual proficiencies, K-8 teachers will report to parents each child’s key strengths and needs as we look ahead to next year.
Flexibility & Forbearance: Given the challenging circumstances many families now face, it is important to hold harmless students from the standpoint of grading; our K-12 grading practices will reflect flexibility and ensure that grades are not punitive in any way given the extraordinary circumstances families find themselves in.
Transferable Skills: Since learning has necessarily looked different this spring, transferable skills (i.e., Self-Direction, Problem Solving, Communication, Citizenship, Informed & Integrative Thinking) are more important than ever. This spring marks the first time that all K-12 teachers will provide feedback on these skills, either as a proficiency score (9-12) or by narrative (K-8).
REPORT CARDS WILL BE MAILED HOME ON JUNE 15TH.
Congratulations to Mia Parizo! Chamberlin School Layperson of the Year
Thank You to Our Volunteers
Every year, we give a special award to a parent volunteer who goes above and beyond to support our school. This year, the Layperson Award goes to Mia Parizo! Mrs. Parizo has been on the PTO for many years, including as our Vice President for the last few years. She volunteers as a room parent, coordinates our Popcorn Fridays, organizes the Fun Run and the Save A Round Coupon book fundraiser and supports SO MANY other events that the PTO or Chamberlin School sponsors! Mrs. Parizo, thank you for all that you do to help make Chamberlin School a better place to learn and grow. We will add her name to the plaque in the library, and we hope that we can have a Layperson Tea to celebrate Mrs. Parizo and all of our other wonderful volunteers in the fall. We are grateful to our PTO board, room parents, RSVP volunteers, grandparents, book fair volunteers, and all of the parents and caregivers who help in numerous ways.We couldn’t have such an amazing school without the help of so many dedicated volunteers.
Chamberlin Garden
Growing Gardens, Growing Kids...Common Root's Education Garden
HI! My name is Kayli O’Donnell, I am the Farm to School Educator for your child as well as the Growing Gardens Educator/Gardener for Common Roots. If you have been to our Farm at South Village off Spear Street and walked around, you may have noticed the sweet 48 gardens tucked away near the yellow shed with children’s vibrant art. This is the educational heart of Common Roots Farm, Growing Gardens. It is a beautiful and fun place for children of all ages.
I am on-site from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm Monday through Friday and would be happy to show you and your family around the space in safe distance. We can make and enjoy some self-harvested sun tea!
Are you supporting your children’s learning with their teachers? If you are interested in getting your kiddo’s outside to learn about gardening, ecology, and nutrition, reach out to schedule a day for your children to play and learn with me at Growing Gardens. This will not be a group experience, instead your visit will be restricted to one family (siblings or housemates) per day so that we can all stay safe. The Garden is stocked with hand sanitizer, hand washing stations, and sanitation for tools.
Let’s make a plan! Email me at: Kayli.odonnell@gmail.com Or Call: (603) 854-4411
New and fun features of the garden worth checking out:
· Human sized bird’s nest! Experience the shelter and home of a bird! Do some bird watching, we have lots of beautiful sky-friends here.
· Medicine Mound! Growing medicinal herbs in mounds is an old practice, one that Abenaki people who lived on the same land that the farm is now on once used! It is a sacred space for growth, like the belly of a pregnant mother. Come learn about herbal medicinal plants and take some home to try!
· Pole Bean Tee-Pee
· Clay making and shaping
· Observational nature art
I hope your child has enjoyed their Farm to School lessons!
Come visit our urban farm at 55 Allen Road East. Simply follow the signs. Oh yes, feel free to bring a few fruit and veggie scraps to feed the chickens next to the red barn.
The Farmstand is open Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 2 – 6:30 pm.
