The Tohickon Golden Eagle
January 2021
2021-2022 PROGRAM PLANNING BEGINS
Dear Tohickon Families,
Happy New Year!!! I hope that you have had a healthy and restful winter break! The past year has been like no other with the onset of COVID-19 and, hopefully, unlike anything that we will have to endure again. As we formally close out 2020, I would be remiss if I did not take this opportunity to thank our community, parents, and students for their hard work, support, cooperation, in helping our staff navigate through this exceptionally difficult time period. We will always be grateful for your understanding as we have had to make several adjustments throughout the year in response to the changing circumstances of the pandemic.
The month of January has arrived and with it comes the beginning of the 2021-2022 Program Planning process. The process with our current ninth grade students will begin on Wednesday, January 6. On that day, the Tohickon Guidance Department will be holding a live Teams event to explain the high school planning process. There will be an email sent on January 5 to all ninth grade students and parents detailing the specific time for the event. On January 7, all three CBSD High Schools will be conducting a Virtual Curriculum Fair. The specifics for this information have already been sent to Tohickon Families with a child in ninth grade. You can access the letters here: CB East or CB West.
The seventh and eighth grade students will kick off their program planning process on Tuesday, January 26. There will be a prerecorded virtual presentation sent to all students that will outline the 2021-2022 planning timeline, course offerings and criteria that teachers consider when making recommendations. These presentations will also be posted on the front page of the Tohickon Web Page. Additionally, on January 27th, social studies, science and English teachers will speak with all seventh and eighth grade students, sharing their course recommendations. Once recommendations are shared, I encourage students to schedule a follow up meeting with their teachers if they have any questions and/or concerns.
I believe that I speak for the entire staff here at Tohickon when I say that we are relieved to turn the page from 2020 to 2021. I am hopeful that this message finds you and your family healthy and well. If you have any questions and/or concerns regarding the 2021-2022 Program Planning process, please contact the Tohickon Guidance Office at 267-893-3310.
Have a fantastic month!
Sincerely,
Kevin Marton
Tohickon Principal

MESSAGE FROM TOHICKON STUDENT COUNCIL
The Student Council of Tohickon Middle School is a leadership club whose members, and especially officers, exhibit strong, positive role model qualities. While this school year may look and feel different from past years, the purpose of Tohickon’s Student Council will not. This year’s student council consists of thirteen highly qualified Tohickon Freshman. Our student council has two types of member roles – officers and general members. Student Council Officers are leaders at Tohickon and are the only members that have voting privileges in official student council matters.
During the week of November 30th, students voted for their 2020-2021 Tohickon Student Council Officers. Based on the results of the voting, the Tohickon student body selected the following students as officers:
- Diya G.
- Madyson S.
- Giada C.
- Evan C.
- Olivia S.
Congratulations to the five freshman listed above!

VETERANS' DAY STUDENT THANK YOU VIDEO
Hundreds of digital thank-you cards were created by Tohickon students in Social Studies classes in connection with our November 11, 2020 Veterans Day Program. This lesson was facilitated by the Social Studies Department to connect students with local veterans. Veterans from the Doylestown VFW Post 175 shared their stories and experiences, many of which struck a chord in our students. The result was a deluge of heartfelt messages, sent to our local veterans and shared with our community on the Tohickon Library Home Page. There, you can can see the student artwork and messages. The compilation truly demonstrates our students’ deep level of gratitude and appreciation for our local veterans!
PARENT COUNCIL MEETING
We will be holding our next Parent Council Meeting on Thursday, January 21, beginning at 9:00 AM. The meeting will be virtual and, for those that would like to attend, we will be sending out registration information at the beginning of that week. As always, we will have a featured presentation, followed by a period for questions and discussion. We hope to see you there!

Communication
We pride ourselves on communication at Tohickon! There are a number of ways we communicate with our parents. They are as follows:

There is always a chronology of upcoming events listed. All present and past Tohickon newsletters can be found on the Tohickon website.
School Website - The Tohickon website is a great place to find important information. The most recent newsletter and daily announcement links are always located on the front page. All information pertinent to parents and students can be found in the "Parent/Student" section of the website.

Twitter - Messages and pictures are sent to the community frequently to highlight unique events happening in school. Follow us on Twitter @CBTohickonMS
Parent Council Meetings - These are great opportunities to hear what is going on and to provide feedback to Mr. Marton and Dr. Fash. The meetings begin promptly at 9:00 AM and usually conclude between 10:00 and 10:30 AM. There is no meeting in June and the May meeting is traditionally reserved for the Teacher Appreciation Luncheon.
Teacher Websites/Canvas - All teachers are expected to maintain an updated school website/ Canvas homepage. These sites are useful for finding out what is going on in class, tracking assignments, etc.
