Pacific Sky Family Update
Principal's Weekly Message 1/30-2/3
Dear Pacific Sky Families,
DMUSD is in the strategic planning process to create a guide for our future work. Click HERE to read more about it. To help elevate student voices, I am conducting focus groups with our students in grades 4, 5, and 6. I wanted to share with you some of their feedback. When asked what makes our school special, some of the responses included:
- It’s new and modern and it makes you feel like you matter more because they spent time making things nice for students.
- It's an open and friendly environment.
- It's good for thinking. There are many places to go and spaces to work. It feels like there is a lot of room.
- The library is spread out all around the school which is cool because finding a book feels like an adventure and you see many books along the way. Plus we can get a book whenever we need.
- There's so much to do on the playground. And the field is really nice.
- We are not isolated, but collaborative.
- I love that there is a variety of furniture throughout the school. You can choose all types of comfortable places to be throughout the day.
Many more ideas were shared. Hearing from the student's perspectives about their school experience so far is important and it is a good reminder of how special Pacific Sky School is.
Gratefully,
Alison Fieberg, Principal

No Place for Hate
To make Pacific Sky a welcoming and inclusive school environment for all students, we partner with the Anti-Defamation League to earn a No Place for Hate designation. We have a group of dedicated 4th-6th grade students who work alongside staff to create school-wide activities that help foster a positive school climate. This week concluded our first school-wide activity centered around respect. Depending on the grade level, students read the following books:
- A Little Respectful Spot : explains how to show respect to people, places, and things
- Do Unto Otters : teaching the golden rule
- The Sandwich Swap : depicts respect for diversity and differences
- The Golden Rule : how to be respectful to others and tying in how the golden rule is written in several religions
The activity culminated with the creation of a wall of respect.
Counselor's Corner
January is all about those New Year’s resolutions, but this year let’s be SMART about it! SMART goals incorporate all the necessary criteria to help us focus our efforts and increase the chances of achieving our goal. Watch this video for a more interactive explanation of SMART goals.
Sit down with your child(ren) and create SMART goals of your own following the steps of the infographic below/here. Think about goals related to school, after-school activities, hobbies, or even a new skill! The books below will support the conversation surrounding goal setting and how to show grit through challenges:

STEAM+ Spotlight: Curiosity and Wonder
Our STEAM+ programs ignite curiosity and wonder as students use multiple modalities to explore content standards and their own areas of interest.
Hello Pacific Sky Families, Our very first Pacific Sky International Night will be on Feb 10 Fri, 5-7 PM. It will be a fun-filled evening of international performances, food and crafts. It will take place at the Innovation Center (indoor) and the lunch area (outdoor). International feast (outdoor) and booth/craft (indoor) will be available at 5-6:15 PM and performance (indoor) will start at 6:15 PM. We are very excited to have representations from these countries/cultures: China, India, Ireland, Italy, Laos, Korea, Palestine, Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Sweden.
In addition to the free international feast from the world, we will prepare pizza slices and water bottles for purchase ($1 each). For us to better estimate how many pizzas and water bottles we should prepare, please RSVP at https://bit.ly/3QVR9OQ.
When you come to the event, please enter from the top gate close to Solterra Vista Pkwy and walk to the lunch area. You will see the food tables there and there will be a passport table by the Innovation Center entrance for you to pick up a passport and enter inside for booths/craft/performances. Please consume the food in the outdoor area.
As the volunteers will start setting up in the Innovation Center right after school, there will be no Math Club on Feb 10.
We also will have our next restaurant night at Jersey Mike’s on Feb 8 Wed, 10am-8pm. Please consider getting some great subs at Jersey Mike’s and supporting the PTA at the same time. See this flyer http://bit.ly/3HB61PX for more details.
Thank you!
