INSPIRING SPACES: CLASSROOM MAKEOVER
Our teachers are amazing. Their work and dedication continues to inspire magic in our classrooms each and every day.
That's why our community has signed on to support the Inspiring Spaces: Classroom Makeover Program for a second year. Your input will help us award three of our best teachers with the classroom of their dreams thanks to the generosity of our business and community.
If you or your student is inspired by a teacher, nominate them to receive a classroom makeover this summer. To learn more about this program or to share your story about one of our stellar educators, visit our website: https://tinyurl.com/5bmw8pkt
Nominations close on March 20th.

WEAR BRIGHT SOCKS ON MARCH 21ST!
We invite everyone to wear bright socks next Thursday, March 21 in honor of those living with Down syndrome.
Every year on March 21, people all around the world come together to celebrate World Down syndrome by wearing brightly colored, mismatched socks. March 21 is symbolic because people with Down syndrome have 3 copies of the 21st chromosome. Socks were chosen because the karyotype of Ds chromosome looks like mismatched socks.
FIRST GRADE PERFORMANCE
CAR RIDER DISMISSAL
If you're trying to avoid the long car rider line, you don't have to wait until 2:45 pm. We are finished dismissing almost all students by 2:30 pm. Please don't wait to pick up your student.
Thank you.
JUMP UP DAY FOR RISING 6TH GRADERS
Attention parents of rising 6th graders: We are thrilled to collaborate with our local middle schools. JUMP UP Days are scheduled for March! These JUMP UP Days are intended to help students start getting acclimated to the next level in their educational careers in Rock Hill Schools. Hosting schools will give students basic information about the schedule, extracurricular activities, expectations, as well as answer questions and work to help students feel comfortable and excited about the upcoming transition to middle school. Current Virtual Academy students will be invited to participate in the JUMP UP Day at their zoned schools for next year.
Our current fifth grade students will visit the middle school in which they are zoned for during the month of March, face-to-face. Each Sixth Grade Jump Up Day will run approximately 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Dates to be hosted by each middle school are as follows:

A QUICK REMINDER FROM NURSE BOSDELL
It is cold and flu season. A child should be fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medicine (Tylenol or Motrin) before returning to school. A child should also be vomit and diarrhea free for 24 hours before returning to school. Below is the DHEC site about illnesses. Thank you!

ATTENDANCE MATTERS
A Message from Mrs. McCoy, our Guidance Counselor:
As a friendly reminder, we wanted to take this time to remind you of the attendance policy and SC law.
Students are required to attend school 170 days out of the 180-day school year. This is SC Code of Laws 59-65-50 and SC Board of Education Regulations.
Students will be considered lawfully absent when:
- They are ill, and their illness would endanger their health or the health of others (fever, vomiting, or diarrhea).
- There is a death or serious illness in their immediate family.
- There is a recognized religious holiday of their faith.
- The student is suspended from school.
- There is a necessary medical or legal appointment that cannot be scheduled during non-school time (please provide medical or legal excuse).
The school can only accept FIVE (5) parent notes as lawfully excused absences. Any absences beyond FIVE must fall into the above-mentioned categories and the appropriate documentation must be submitted.
Students will be considered unlawfully absent when:
- They are wilfully absent from school without the knowledge of their parent or guardian.
- They are absent without acceptable cause with the knowledge of their parent or guardian.
- They are absent beyond the FIVE (5) allowed absences that can be excused with a parent note and additional absences do not fall into the categories listed under lawful absences and/or documentation is not submitted.
As a school, we will make all reasonable attempts to obtain documentation to appropriately code student absences. Excessive absences (3 consecutive unlawful absences or 5 unexcused days) can result in an attendance plan. If absences continue after the attendance plan is instituted, this can result in a referral to DSS or family court.
Thank you in advance for all that you do to support our positive learning community.
Eating Lunch With Your Child
Due to capacity issues, we will allow this on Fridays only. The lunch time for each classroom teacher is listed below. Please make sure you arrive early and bring your license into the building because you will be required to sign in.
