Copyright Compliance

The Course Pack assists faculty in securing permission from the owners of copyrighted material to include it in their student course packs, class handouts, or other distributed materials. It also helps faculty, staff and students in finding the answers to the following questions:

  • Is the book, magazine or newspaper article, photograph, video, or sound recording I want to reproduce copyright protected?
  • Do I have to secure permission from rights holder to make copies?
  • How much are permission fees?

The Course Packet helps faculty, staff and students comply with Seattle University Copyright Policy.

Lemieux Library Resources
The Lemieux Library and McGoldrick Learning Commons subscribes to hundreds of electronic journals and databases that are available for course readings. Best practice is to provide links to these electronic articles in CANVAS or through Library Course Reserves. It is recommended that you do not include print copies of library electronic articles for course packs as this usually requires a separate copyright permission and additional fees.
