Celebration of Staff

Save the Date! Celebration of Staff

Friday, June 16, 2023
12:00 PM – 1:30 PM
The Quad

During the event, we will gather to celebrate the contributions of staff at Seattle University and pay special recognition to those staff who are retiring or who are celebrating a milestone anniversary in 2023. We will also honor recipients of our exemplary staff awards. Faculty colleagues are welcome to attend this event.

The celebration will conclude with a catered lunch/barbeque followed by early dismissal* at 1:30PM. Non-essential offices may be closed during the event to accommodate staff attendance. This event precedes the long weekend with campus being closed the following Monday in observance of Juneteenth.

*Important Guidelines Regarding Early Dismissal

Please note the following important guidelines for staff early dismissal:

  • This early release for staff applies to Friday, June 16, 2023 from 1:30 to 4:30 pm, and may not be used to alter work hours at any other time, unless an exception is approved in advance in writing by your supervisor. In effect, the June 16, 2023 early release affects 3.0 hours of that workday.
  • Exceptions will also be permitted if a staff member is required to work after early dismissal commences on Friday, June 16, 2023 (because an office must remain open, for example) or they have put in a full workday on Friday, June 16, 2023 before the early dismissal commences.  In such cases, the employee may leave 3.0 hours earlier on another day during the same or following work week, as approved in advance in writing by the supervisor.
  • Nonexempt staff who leave work for early dismissal on June 16, 2023 will enter 7.5 hours on their timecard, as they will be paid as though it is a full day.
  • A staff member who planned to leave for early dismissal on June 16, 2023, but then uses vacation time, sick leave, or other personal leave is charged with a full day and does not receive an “extra” 3.0 hours to use at another time.
  • This is not a pay benefit.  The time does not accumulate and may not be carried over.
