In 1930, SCHEELS opened their first store in downtown Fargo, North Dakota after Fred M. Scheel bought Swanson Hardware. After this purchase, SCHEELS quickly became a multi-store company expanding to various locations throughout the Fargo, North Dakota, and Moorhead, Minnesota community.

On July 1, 2006, SCHEELS opened a new and improved shopping experience on 45th Street in Fargo, north of Interstate 94. The extraordinary 196,000-square-foot shopping experience expanded to a selection of sporting goods, sportswear, footwear, and entertainment for the entire family to enjoy.
