The Benefits of Safe Routes Programs for Community Cohesion

Often cited as one of the benefits of the Safe Routes programs, community cohesion arises when social bonds link members of a locality to one another and to the group as a whole.  These bonds do not develop spontaneously,  Rather, cohesion among group members develops from a heightened sense of belonging, teamwork, and interpersonal attraction.  This report explores the ways in which Safe Routes programs help promote and encourage community cohesion.
