The Narrative Lab
WRITE & DIRECT A MOVIE!
The Narrative Lab is a free filmmaking workshop open to advanced young filmmakers (graduates of The Lab or other similar programs) who have distinguished themselves artistically and want to continue to hone their skills as filmmakers.
The Narrative Lab is a 9-month program that will equip you with advanced skills in screenwriting, producing, editing, cinematography, and sound. During this program, you will produce short narrative films that are written, directed, produced, and edited by you!
The production phase of the program begins in Spring 2024. You will be matched with mentors, a youth producer, and a staff producer who will support you.
Reel Works is closely monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic and the program will be in person. We will be following recommendations put forth by nyc.gov to determine when we can safely have in-person interactions and workshops.
Space is limited. Applicants are required to submit a one-page treatment for their film idea within the application and be ready to pitch their idea at the interview. Applicants are strongly advised to Zoom with Reel Works staff before submitting their application. We are willing to review and advise you on your treatment prior to submission.
Workshop Dates:
Narrative Lab begins on October 16th, 2023 and runs until June 19th, 2024. The program meets every Monday and Wednesday from 4:30 - 6:30 PM.
Eligibility:
New York City Resident
Must be a high school student
Must commit to the full-length after-school program and be available to shoot your film in the Spring or Summer of 2024.
Must prepare a treatment for the interview and be prepared to pitch it.
