The Queen’s Medical Center is pleased to announce that its Bariatric Surgery Center has been accredited as a Comprehensive Center by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP®), a joint Quality Program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).

The accreditation ensures that metabolic and bariatric patients receive multidisciplinary and high quality medical care at a nationally accredited program which meets the highest standards for patient safety and improves outcomes and long-term success.

The accreditation process included meeting criteria for staffing, training, support groups, quality improvement initiatives, and patient care pathways.  In addition, a site visit was conducted to review and examine the Center’s clinical outcomes data to measure overall performance.

“This is a tremendous honor for the Comprehensive Weight Management Program (CWMP) and Queen’s.  Since 2004, the CWMP has been providing exceptional care to the people of Hawaii and this accreditation validates the tremendous efforts of our team,” said Cedric Lorenzo, M.D., Medical Director of the Comprehensive Weight Management Program at The Queen’s Medical Center.

The accreditation is valid until August 20, 2024.

Established in 2004, Queen’s Comprehensive Weight Management Program is Hawaii’s most strategic weight loss program, offering both surgical and non-surgical weight loss options. Staff will guide you on a safe and sustainable path to long-term weight loss and management success.  Non-surgical weight loss options are available including dietary counseling, personalized meal and exercise plans, and prescription medications to control appetite.  Advanced bariatric care includes minimally-invasive techniques leading to fewer complications and a faster recovery time.  For more information call 808-691-7546 at The Queen’s Medical Center or visit www.queens.org/services/weight-management/.
