Special Opportunities

Time-bound initiatives to fund promising programs that intersect with its program areas.

Advancing Innovative Work

The Special Opportunities Program supports projects reflecting the Foundation’s mission and underlying values, including its longstanding commitment to racial equity and justice. These are one-time only grants that are especially timely and compelling. At times, these grants serve as a laboratory for new ideas.

Public Welfare Foundation currently is funding two special opportunities program areas: Race, Redemption, and Restoration; and Getting Local: District of Columbia. To apply for a grant under the Special Opportunities Program, please submit a Letter of Inquiry.

The Foundation looks for strategic points where its funds can make a significant difference and improve lives through policy and system reform that results in transformative change.
