Palomar College Black Faculty and Staff Association (PBFSA)

OUR MISSION:

We are a place of community, solidarity, and solitude to further the work and interests of Black faculty, staff, and students at Palomar College. Our goal is to improve and sustain programs, opportunities, and advocacy for the Black population at Palomar College.

Our work, interests and goals: 

• Cultivate a safe space for Black staff, faculty, and students designed to support cultural learning 
• Expand the visibility and recognition of Black students by providing a physical space to uplift the Black experience at Palomar College
• Organize and offer events that further the social experience and educational goals of Black students
• Provide and advocate for Black-centered professional development opportunities with the goal of increasing the presence of Black faculty and staff at Palomar College  
• Create meaningful engagement with local initiatives and Black communities in North County San Diego 
• Exercise academic and professional transparency
• Foster social justice challenges institutionally through collaborating among ourselves and and lifting our voices to help the College make authentic structural changes.
• Advocate and enrich the College’s efforts to serve students equitably

OUR HISTORY

Founded in the summer of 2020, the mission of the Palomar Black Faculty and Staff Association (PBFSA) is to provide a place of solitude to further the work and interests of Black faculty, staff, and students at Palomar College. The protests arising from the killings and shootings of unarmed Black citizens since May 2020 reinvigorated the College’s efforts to serve students equitably. PBFSA is supporting social justice challenges institutionally through collaborating among ourselves and and lifting our voices to help the College make authentic structural changes. The focus of our work remains, however, to more meaningfully engage with initiatives locally Black students attending Palomar and connecting with African American communities in North County San Diego.
