Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos says arming teachers is “one solution” to school shootings, she tells “60 Minutes” this weekend.

“[Armed teachers] should be an option for states and communities to consider,” DeVos tells Lesley Stahl.

The interview airs at 7 p.m. Sunday on CBS. (The network is offering two hours of the news magazine, with the second at 8 p.m.)

The guns wouldn’t be for every teacher, DeVos says.

“But for those who are capable this is one solution that can and should be considered…every state and every community is going to address this issue in a different way,” DeVos tells Stahl.

DeVos said the issue must be addressed soon: “There is a sense of urgency indeed.”

She said “a lot of states” are addressing the issue in “very cohesive and coherent ways.”

In the interview, DeVos also discusses advocating school choice, which has been criticized as a way to privatize public schools.
