COVID-19 Vaccination Information

Ways to Get Vaccinated

Both the FDA and the CDC approved and recommended an updated 2023/2024 COVID-19 vaccine for everyone over the age of 6 months. The updated vaccines were developed by Moderna and Pfizer and target the currently-circulating strains of the COVID-19 virus.

***

As we head into the fall and winter months, Oak Park public health officials recommend that all community members 6 months and older receive an updated COVID-19 vaccine.

Most community members can still get a COVID-19 vaccine for free.

  • For people with health insurance, most plans will cover the COVID-19 vaccine at no cost from local pharmacies. Local health care providers may also have the updated vaccine.
  • For people who don’t have health insurance, or who have health plans that do not cover the cost of vaccines, they can get a free vaccine through a provider that offers the Bridge Access Program for ages 18 – 64, or the Vaccines for Children program for ages 17 and under.

Information about upcoming COVID-19 vaccine clnics hosted by the Oak Park Health Department for people who don't have health insurance, or who have plans that do not cover the cost of vaccines, will be posted here as it becomes available.

For assistance accessing vaccines, please reach out to the Oak Park Public Health Department at 708.358.5480 and health@oak-park.us

The former versions of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are no longer authorized and may no longer be used for what was once considered the primary series, or as booster shots.

People who have never received previous COVID-19 vaccination are also eligible for the updated shots.
