As a public defender, she represented indigent clients in trials and appeals. She has also been a corporate document review attorney, served in the Peace Corps in Senegal, taught English in Japan, and wrote for ABC News and The Jerusalem Report, among many other adventures.

She studied journalism at Boston University, religion at Columbia University, and law at the City University of New York.
