Just as the Yankees add to their lineup, injuries take away. DJ LeMahieu and Gio Urshela were out of the lineup for Friday’s series opener against the Marlins with what manager Aaron Boone said were day-to-day issues and he is “hopeful” that they will be available this weekend.
Urshela left Thursday’s 14-0 loss to the Rays with a hamstring issue, Boone said.
“He had some hamstring tightness. He was better today, got out there and ran around a little bit. I think he was probably a little better than expected but he’s day to day right now.”
LeMahieu played through a sore triceps issue on Thursday.
“It’s bruised or strained. So it was a little sore yesterday playing through the game and then, today was still a little sore,” Boone said. “So they’re both kind of in that day-to-day mode right now.”
Boone had the newly acquired Joey Gallo and Anthony Rizzo to add to his lineup as the two big names the Yankees acquired before the 4 p.m. trade deadline.
