Someone really tried it.

A day after Jacob deGrom delivered his latest dominant performance, one person on Twitter accused the two-time Cy Young winner of using a ball doctoring substance. The person, listed as @DoyersDave on Twitter shared a video of deGrom walking back onto the mound, adjusting his belt and then his glove.

“Jacob Decheats or since it’s not Bauer or Cole, we don’t care? Lol,” the self-proclaimed Dodgers fan wrote.

The Mets got hold of the video and one by one stood by their ace.

“I promise you he doesn’t use anything. If he did they would be lucky to even foul tip the ball cc: @McCannon33,” backup catcher Tomas Nido wrote, tagging starting catcher James McCann.

“I can confirm. The is substance-free. Can you imagine if he did use something? cc: @STR0,” McCann echoed.

DeGrom had lowered his season ERA to an unimaginable 0.62 with a 0.57 WHIP after his last start against the Padres in San Diego on Saturday. And the season isn’t even half-way through. In nine starts over 58 innings, he’s given up just 25 hits, seven runs (four earned, including three homers), eight walks and 93 nasty punchouts.

Even his fellow pitchers attest to his greatness.

“I can confirm as well! deGrom is the goat goat! cc: @tai_walker,” Mets’ Marcus Stroman continued in the thread, tagging fellow rotation pitcher, Taijuan Walker.

“I can confirm too!! The goat doesn’t need it!! CC: @IamTrevorMay,” Walker wrote, tagging in the bullpen.

“I can also confirm, he’s just way better than all of us. Confirm? Cc: @KPILLAR4,” Trevor May said, tagging in one of the teams’ new position player additions of the season, Kevin Pillar.

“I’d bet my paycheck on it that he doesn’t use anything. He might be from a different planet though cc: @StevenACohen2,” Pillar continued, tagging the team’s new owner, who’s also a known Mets fan.

Cohen didn’t continue the thread (yet), but on Sunday, tweeted: “I’ve also noticed there is less complaining when DeGrom pitches.”
