It was a Chance encounter for Dionne Warwick.
The 79-year-old singing icon took to Twitter on Saturday to pose a query to a much-younger music star.
“Hi, @chancetherapper,” tweeted Warwick a five-time Grammy winner. “If you are very obviously a rapper why did you put it in your stage name? I cannot stop thinking about this.”
Chance the Rapper — real name Chancelor Jonathan Bennett — was quick to respond, even though he didn’t answer the question.
“Sorry I’m still freaking out that u know who I am,” Chance tweeted. “This is amazing!”
The 27-year-old, a three-time Grammy winner himself, followed up with, “I will be whatever you wanna call me Ms Warwick. God bless you.”
Warwick praised the song “Holy” by Justin Bieber and Chance as one of her favorites now.
The Orange, N.J., native had her first Top 10 hit with “Anyone Who Had a Heart” in 1963. Her other smashes include “Walk on By,” “I Say a Little Prayer,” “I’ll Never Fall in Love Again” and “Heartbreaker.”
Her pipes are legendary, but just to make sure people know that, she tweeted, “I am now Dionne the Singer.”
Warwick teamed with Stevie Wonder, Elton John and Gladys Knight in 1985 for “That’s What Friends Are For,” which soared to No. 1. Since she’s no stranger to collaborations, Dionne the Singer might work with Chance the Rapper.
“Of course I know you,” she tweeted. “You’re THE rapper. Let’s rap together. I’ll message you.”
Warwick then turned her Andy Rooney-like Twitter musings to another young music maker.
“The Weeknd is next,” she tweeted. “Why? It’s not even spelled correctly?”
