The first victim to have been identified in the rubble of a collapsed Florida condominium complex in Surfside is a mother whose teenage son was rescued from the rubble.

Stacie Fang was the mother of 15-year-old Jonah Handler, who’d been pulled from the debris Thursday.

NBC News reports that Fang, 54, was brought to Aventura Hospital on Thursday, where she died. Her family asked for privacy in a statement that also expressed gratitude to well-wishers throughout the tragic ordeal.

“There are no words to describe the tragic loss of our beloved Stacie,” the statement reads in part. “The members of the Fang and Handler family would like to express our deepest appreciation for the outpouring of sympathy, compassion and support we have received.”

It also asks “On behalf of Stacie’s son, Jonah, we ask you now to please respect our privacy to grieve and to try to help each other heal.”

Jonah, who was seen being pulled from under the collapsed 12-story building in dramatic video footage, is a sophomore at Monsignor Edward Pace High School in Miami Garde, where he plays basketball. The teen’s father reportedly said that he is in stable condition.

A 55-year-old man walking his dog said he heard the building crumble for reasons still unclear. When he moved in close, he heard Jonah calling for help and saw his hand waving from under the wreckage. The dog walker and another person waited there for rescue workers to arrive.

Four people have been confirmed dead and there are still 159 unaccounted for, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said.
