An inmate being held at a Lower Manhattan jail died in an apparent suicide, the Daily News has learned.

Ryan Wilson, 29, hanged himself inside the Manhattan Detention Complex Sunday — a facility better known by its nickname The Tombs, sources said.

An officer discovered a lifeless Wilson in his cell with a bed sheet around his neck just after 5:15 p.m. Sunday, according to an internal Correction Department document obtained by The News. He transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

“Our deepest condolences go out to the detainee’s family in their time of grief,” DOC Press Secretary Jason Kersten said in a statement. “We take the health and safety of everyone in our custody seriously, and an investigation into this death is underway.”?

Manhattan Detention Complex is slated to close by the end of the month, though a court order could prevent the jail from shutting down.

The death comes over a month after Christopher Cruz, 27, died at the Anna M. Kross Center on Rikers Island.

An officer found Cruz unresponsive in his cell Oct. 9 around 9:30 a.m. He was pronounced dead at 10:14 a.m.
