NLN Announces Annual Research Grants & Jonas Scholar Awards Promoting Nursing Education Scholarship
Formal Presentation Will Be Held During the 2022 NLN Education Summit, September 28-30 in Las Vegas
Washington, DC — The National League for Nursing proudly announces the winners of the competitive scholarly research grants program and the selection of Jonas Scholars, under the banner of the NLN/Chamberlain University College of Nursing Center for the Advancement of the Science of Nursing Education. Formal presentation will take place during the 2022 NLN Education Summit, September 28-30 in Las Vegas.
NLN Chair Kathleen Poindexter, PhD, RN, CNE, ANEF, interim associate dean of academic affairs at Michigan State University in Lansing, said “As the first national nursing organization to fund nursing education research, the National League for Nursing takes seriously its unique role in elevating evidence-based, innovative scientific inquiry in pursuit of transformative excellence in nursing education. The work of these deserving scholars reflects the importance of the continuing search for increasingly sophisticated solutions to the complex, dynamic health care challenges of today’s world.”
NLN President and CEO Beverly Malone, PhD, RN, FAAN said, “Nurse educators committed to discipline-specific pedagogy are the vital link to a future nursing workforce that will transform patient care, advancing the health of our nation and the global community. Deepest thanks are also due to our partners at Jonas Philanthropies, which has generously funded the Jonas Scholars Program at the NLN/Chamberlain Center for more than two decades. We also thank our dedicated scholars on the Research Grants Review Panel who made tough selections from a competitive field of research grants applicants.”
Jonas Scholars receive direct funding in their final year of doctoral study, leading to completion of their dissertation projects, as well as support for travel expenses to attend conferences, including the NLN Education Summit. Since its inception in 2010, the Jonas Scholars Program has been generously funded by Jonas Philanthropies, a New York-based foundation that promotes excellence in nursing.
Under the direction of NLN Distinguished Scholar Barbara Patterson, PhD, RN, FAAN, ANEF, who heads the NLN/Chamberlain Center, the program has included a comprehensive mentoring component with leading scholars at the NLN/Chamberlain Center. Jonas Scholars have been recommended by faculty at their respective academic institutions, further fostering a network of novice researchers.
