The Middlebury Museum Studies in Oxford programme offers undergraduates at American colleges and universities the chance to spend one month of the summer in the heart of Oxford, England.

Students have the unparalleled opportunity to complete one week’s practicum at Compton Verney (an art gallery housed in a magnificent former stately home), before visiting a range of local, regional and London-based museums, galleries and heritage sites. Here students meet with a variety of museum and heritage professionals, ranging from directors and curators, to experts in retail and marketing, in order to gain a broad understanding of how the different sectors operate. By the end of the programme, students will have had a privileged insight into the structure, management and activities of museums, as well as a critical introduction to the unique British approach to historic preservation.

The programme is held at Middlebury-CMRS (Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies), the site of the semester-long Middlebury-CMRS Oxford Humanities Program.
