“The thing that Mayo brings to the table is not just world-class health care, but granular detail. You're working with some of the best people in the world. What I know is that I can pick up the phone, ring up my counterpart in the US and say, "What do you think? How do we manage this patient? I'd be grateful for your opinion," and that opportunity to bounce things back, in a friendly, relaxed, easy manner, knowing that it can be done, at any time of day or over the weekend.”

Sanjay Prasad, MD, FRCP, Consultant Cardiologist: Early on when I was at school, I was inspired by family members who were doctors. I knew that I wanted to do something that involved working with people. I enjoyed how the body works. When I was a medical student, I had the opportunity to spend four weeks at Mayo Clinic. During my early studies at med school, I'd always heard about Mayo, but the opportunity to actually go there was truly inspirational. I was a mere medical student, yet when I walked through the doors, they made you feel special. The thing that Mayo brings to the table is not just world-class health care, but granular detail. You're working with some of the best people in the world. What I know is that I can pick up the phone, ring up my counterpart in the US and say, "What do you think?" "How do we manage this patient?" "I'd be grateful for your opinion" and that opportunity to bounce things back, in a friendly, relaxed, easy manner, knowing that it can be done, at anytime of day or over the weekend, they're always available, is an amazing opportunity. Mayo Clinic is special at every level. From the moment you walked through the doors, you've got world-class facilities. But it's the people that really make it. And it's the fact that you're working with people who will go above and beyond at every level at every stage, and do the right thing. Whether that's on Friday and 09:00 in the evening or Monday at 09:00 a.m. That's what makes it special.
