Happy 1st day of Mental Health Awareness month! This month is dedicated to raising awareness about mental health, reducing stigma, and promoting well-being. In light of this important cause, we have a special two part weekly initiative that we're kicking off next week, and we're inviting you to participate! Every week we'll dive into a new Mental Health theme and pose related questions on our Instagram story as part of our #MindfulExchange challenge. Questions will be posted every Monday and we'll be featuring participants who share their responses on our page! In addition, we'll also be having a weekly Instagram Takeover called #RealTalkTuesday. This will feature a variety of volunteers from our NWF community who will be sharing insights, answering questions and connecting with others based on the themed questions. Join us on Instagram @NWFoundation_ starting next week! #MentalHealthAwareness #WellnessChallenge #MentalHealthMatters

This year marks a milestone to celebrate for a couple of reasons! Since its birth in 2019, our scholarship program has provided over $100,000 in awarded scholarships to 20+ exceptional students. It's been an honor to support these scholars on their educational paths, becoming a part of their stories forever. Next month, our inaugural scholarship recipient will be graduating from Morgan State University, becoming the first NWF Scholar graduate — which is a testament to our program's full-circle impact. Our success in supporting students in the local DMV area have been made possible through our partnerships with CollegeBound Foundation, College Bound D.C., and Howard Community College. We extend a heartfelt thank you to the generous NWF volunteers who have dedicated their time to help us select our scholars over the years. Above all, we are pleased to be able to renew the scholarships of all our existing scholars and thank you all for your participation in this fulfilling journey.

Ignoring your personal experiences could cost the people you're meant to serve... I've come to realize the incredible power of personal experiences in driving impactful endeavors. Growing up, both my parents, as first-generation college graduates, emphasized the importance of education. Like many kids, I heard their words but didn't fully appreciate their significance at the time. However, it was the passing of my father twelve years ago that ignited a profound transformation within me. His words and the life he lived became a guiding light, inspiring me to launch Newwave Foundation - a non-profit that provides educational opportunities including scholarships for first-generation college students, echoing the values my father cherished. While his loss was undoubtedly painful, it served as the catalyst for something beautiful and impactful. It's a testament to the power of personal experiences, challenges, and passions in fueling new ventures. Our unique stories and experiences can be our greatest assets, propelling us to create meaningful change in the world. Let's embrace our journeys and harness them as fuel to launch ventures that make a difference. #PersonalJourney #Impact #Entrepreneurship

What an unforgettable moment........! I had the privilege to moderate Newwave Foundation's annual Money Talks event live for the first time this past Saturday, as part of the #HBCUniverseSummit at my alma mater, Morgan State University. The atmosphere was simply electric, buzzing with enthusiasm and eagerness to learn. I was honored to be joined by an esteemed panel of industry experts – CJ Lawrence, Tisa Silver Canady, EdD, Rakia Finley, and James W. Peterson, Jr. – who brought invaluable insights and perspectives on financial literacy and entrepreneurship. Their contributions truly elevated the event, providing our audience with practical advice and actionable strategies. I must extend a heartfelt appreciation to Kiante Bush, MBA of Venture for T.H.E.M. and Tremain Davis of ThinkPGC, the co-founders of the #HBCUniversesummit, for their vision and determination in making this event a resounding success. Their leadership and dedication were evident in every aspect of the summit, from its organization to its execution. Of course, none of this would have been possible without the unwavering support and hard work of the Newwave Foundation Board and Team. Their commitment to our mission of empowering the next generation of leaders is truly inspiring, and I am grateful for the opportunity to work alongside such passionate individuals. The HBCUniverse Summit was more than just a gathering – it was a platform for connection, growth, and opportunity. As I looked around the room, I saw not just students, but future entrepreneurs, innovators, and leaders. The networking opportunities were abundant, and the information shared was invaluable for both students and adults alike. As I reflect on this weekend, I am filled with gratitude for the experience and the incredible individuals I had the privilege to meet and collaborate with. The HBCUniverse Summit reminded me of the power of community and the importance of lifting each other up as we strive for success. I look forward to future collaborations and opportunities to continue empowering others on their journey to financial literacy and entrepreneurial success. Together, we can create a brighter future for generations to come. #hbcuniverse #blackhistorymonth2024 #financialliteracy #inspire
