It’s #InternationalMuseumDay! To celebrate, enjoy some fun facts about us. 🤯 It would take 8 days to see everything in the museum. That is, if you read every plaque and watched every video. 🏈 The museum is 430,000 square feet or just over 7 football fields in size. 🏙️ The museum encompasses an entire DC city block. It’s all about perspective . . . do you know how tall our Gutenberg Gates are? 👀 Standing nearly 40 feet high, just shy of the height of an NFL field goal post, our Gutenberg Gates greet each guest who enters the museum. Inspired by the spread of the Bible made possible by Johannes Gutenberg’s printing press the gates contain the first 80 lines of Genesis in Latin type set in reverse, like they would have been in a printing bed. 🤔 Stop and admire our brass entry gates on your next visit! 📸: Skylark

“Easter Morning,” designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany, features Jesus in a white robe standing among flowers and trees, his head illuminated by a halo. 🌅 The left window depicts a woman looking toward Jesus, and the right panel includes three crosses on a hill. Louis Comfort Tiffany, founder of Tiffany Studios, was one of America’s most acclaimed artists. “Easter Morning” demonstrates his characteristic design with shimmering, iridescent stained glass windows. The Friday of Holy Week, also called Good Friday, is a day when many Christians remember the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus, as told in the Gospels. Observing the Stations of the Cross is a practice of prayer and contemplation rooted in the traditions of pilgrimage to Jerusalem to walk the path that Jesus walked to Mount Calvary on the day of his crucifixion. This path is also known as the Via Dolorosa, or the "Way of Sorrow." Renowned sculptor Gib Singleton’s “Stations of the Cross” will be on display until April 8. "Christ’s Entry into Jerusalem” by Harold Copping depicts the story from the Gospels in which Jesus rides into Jerusalem on a donkey while people lay palm branches in the road before him. 🌴 This story is celebrated on Palm Sunday, which marks the beginning of Holy Week and the last week of Lent. Many Western Christians celebrate Palm Sunday today, while Eastern Christian traditions celebrate Palm Sunday on April 28.

Billy Graham used the Bible as the basis for his revivals and ministry. 🗣️ During his crusades, he would immerse his audience in the Bible through sermons, banners, and music. Our newest “Personal Stories” exhibit will emulate this experience by immersing guests in the ways Billy Graham used the messages in the Bible to influence the world, reaching over 70 million people across the globe. “Billy Graham’s Canvas Cathedral," opening April 19, will feature 32 artifacts spanning the 60 years of Billy Graham’s ministry. Happy first day of spring! Be sure to stop and smell the roses, or should we say the lilies, in our Biblical Garden. 🌷 The plants and flowers featured in our garden are referenced in the Bible or come from the lands of the Bible, including our lilies. Hosea 14:5 reads, "I will be as the dew unto Israel: he shall grow as the lily, and cast forth his roots as Lebanon." On your next visit, stop by the garden to see which plants you recognize!
