Professor Rowley, GradCIPD, BA, MA (Warwick), DPhil (Nuffield College, Oxford) also holds appointments as: Professor Emeritus, Cass Business School, City, University of London, UK; Visiting Fellow, Institute of Asia and Pacific Studies, Nottingham University, UK; Adjunct Professor, Asia Institute and Asian Studies Department, Griffith University, Australia. He acted as an advisor to an education charity in Singapore and was its Director of Research and Publications. He has held appointments at Cardiff Business School, Cardiff University; School of Management, Royal Holloway, University of London; and also taught in Korea (Korea University) and Switzerland (University of Lugano). Besides being a Visiting Fellow at Kellogg, he is also a member of the College’s Centre for Mutual and Co-owned Business

At Cass he was the founding Director of the Centre for Research on Asian Management, Subject Leader and won several international grants for Asian research, including from the British Academy, ESRC/AIM Overseas International Fellowship, RCUK Academic Fellowship, Taiwan Ministry of Education, Distinguished Scholar Award and Korea Foundation Fellowship (2016). He was twice awarded for ‘Outstanding Contribution to Reputation and Impact Through Research’ with prizes for research and publications at Cass and in Asia. He has examined over 40 PhDs internationally and has had a range of external and visiting appointments at universities globally.

He is Editor of the SCI (and ABS) rated leading academic cross-disciplinary journal on Asia, Asia Pacific Business Review (Routledge) and also the Journal of Chinese Human Resource Management (Emerald) and serves on many journal Editorial Boards. He is Book Series Editor of Working in Asia (Routledge) and Asian Business and Management Studies (World Scientific Press). He collaborates with a network of international colleagues and thought leaders and has published widely, with over 650 journal articles, books and chapters and other contributions in practitioner journals, magazines and newsletters.

He is a highly experienced speaker and has given briefings and talks at universities and companies in Asia and the UK and has consultancy experience with unions, businesses and governments on a range of topics, including: cultural awareness, diversity, leadership, knowledge management, work, employment and human resource management policy and practice issues, Asian business and management and Brexit implications for business, financial services and employment.
