Wayne Evans Cook

Shorewood - Died peacefully on January 22, 2022 at the age of 82. Wayne was born in Pearsall, Texas on December 16, 1939 to the late George and Loreen Keck Cook of Cotulla, Texas. He graduated from Cotulla High School and earned college degrees from the University of North Texas and the University of Illinois. Wayne taught trumpet at Indiana State University from 1964-66 and at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee from 1966-99. While at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee he also served as director of graduate music studies, associate dean of the school of fine arts, and chairperson of the music department. Wayne was also a freelance trumpet player and performed with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Skylight Music Theatre, Music Under the Stars, Milwaukee Ballet Orchestra, Festival City Symphony, and the Waukesha Symphony.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marlene. He is also survived by three daughters; Julie Cook-Runnoe (John), Sheri Bohlman (Tim), and Leslie Krueger (Brian), as well as six delightful grandchildren; Alyssa, Matthew, Logan, Collin, Riley and Oliver. Further survived by a niece, nephews, cousins, brother-in-law, sisters-in-law and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Keck Cook.

In his retirement Wayne enjoyed traveling, reading, listening to music, and attending Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra concerts.

Per Wayne's wishes, there will be no funeral service. At a later date there will be a celebration of his life for family members. Memorials may be given to the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra.
