Black History Month Mural Presentation!
A beautiful mural was created in honor of Black History Month and was presented at the conclusion of our festivities. The mural is dedicated to our black community at IHSCA. It was funded by the Frida Khalo Community Organization EVOLVE Project, and facilitated by Ms. Arellano. This project was a collaboration between teachers, artists, and the organization. The thoughts and input of our students and teachers were at the forefront in coming up with a design. The mural is full of symbolism and representation of different eras in Black History. QR codes will be linked to certain components of the mural to learn about the different African symbols, people, and flags. We are excited for the mural to be permanently put on display in the community room. Please continue reading for pictures and to recognize the individuals who all played a role in creating the mural!

IHSCA Students Attend The 74th General Assembly of Youth and Government
8 of our students went to the state capitol to participate in the 74th General Assembly of Youth and Government, a mock government experience in which approximately 900 high school students from all over the state of Illinois come together to run the capitol for a weekend. Our students worked newspaper media, defended a bill in the Illinois Senate and House of Representatives, and participated in a mock trial at the State House. This weekend also included campaigning, the electoral process, and networking across districts for a unique experience, giving our scholars an insider's look at how our local government operates! A big thank you to our club sponsors Ms. Hatley and Mr. Obaob for empowering our students to learn about government policies and and its methods. Continue reading to see our students in action!
