A CELEBRATION OF LIFE

DEWHIRST, Scot Evan (June 8, 1952 - May 21, 2020). Born in Cincinnati, Ohio. Moved to Morrow, Ohio at age one and spent wonderful years at the farm running in the fields, riding horses and fishing and swimming in the lake.

Parents Joseph Edward and Grace Viola (Jacobs) Dewhirst. Step-mother Sybil Belle (Short) Fudge Dewhirst.

Sister Merry (Robert M.) Wieland. Nephew Chris (Heather) Wieland, grand-nephews Jack and Luke Wieland, and nephew John Wieland. Step-siblings Edward, Henry, Robert, Benjamin, Paul and Nancy Fudge and their families. God-daughter Summer Martinez-Wheeler, Team Scot, and many loving relatives, friends, neighbors, students and colleagues were all honored to know and love Scot and will cherish our special memories.

Graduated Little Miami High School (1970), the Ohio State University (1974), Capital University Law School (1978)

Of counsel to the law firm of Artz, Dewhirst & Wheeler, LLP. Founding partner of the firm in 1988. Adjunct professor at Capital University Law School for over 30 years and was planning to teach in July of this year. Touched the lives of thousands of students.

Previously held several roles in City of Columbus government, including seven years as Director of the Columbus Night Prosecutor Program. Known locally, nationally, and internationally in the field of Dispute Resolution. Co-founder of the Center for Dispute Resolution at Capital University Law School. One of Scot’s favorite dispute resolution projects was working with the Dispute Resolution Foundation of Jamaica. Other special areas of expertise and accomplishments: Historic Preservation and Zoning.

Avid gardener, accomplished cook, seasoned traveler and a great fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes.

In the words of Scot’s colleagues at The Legacy Fund, there is no way to measure all of the lives Scot has touched. As a founding father of the Legacy Fund, Scot was a giver, servant, leader, mentor, teacher and role model.
