Center for Behavioral Health Neuropsychology

The Pediatric Neuropsychology Program at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida, focuses on the evaluation of brain-behavior relationships and neurocognitive functioning.

A doctor, teacher, school psychologist or other professionals may refer children and adolescents to our neuropsychologists due to difficulties or changes in memory, attention, executive functioning, processing speed, behavior, socialization, emotional control, or learning. This can be due to a medical condition such as a concussion, traumatic brain injury, stroke, seizures, epilepsy, exposure to chemotherapy and/or radiation, genetic condition, or other medical condition.

Neuropsychological Evaluation

Formal testing of neurocognitive abilities, called a neuropsychological evaluation, may be completed to assess brain functioning. A neuropsychological examination measures brain functions such as:

  • Academic Achievement
  • Attention and concentration
  • Emotional, social and behavioral functioning
  • Executive functioning, such as time management, organization and planning skills
  • Intellectual abilities
  • Language
  • Learning and memory
  • Motor coordination skills
  • Processing speed
  • Visual perception, visual-spatial skills

One of our neuropsychologists or supervised trainees will conduct the evaluation and interpret the test results to make a diagnosis and recommendations for treatment. Evaluations may also be helpful in educational, vocational and treatment planning.
