Rate this book
Once upon a time...

Twelve years ago, Meg's father remarried. A few weeks later, he and her younger sister were lost at sea, and then Meg herself was sent to be personal maid to the neighboring country's princess, leaving their youngest sister to their stepmother's mercy. Fortunately for them, that princess was Robin, and now, after years of setbacks and waiting, they're on their way to piece the family back together. A fairy's promise gives them hope for success, but is that enough in the face of pirates, lost slippers, and chess?

I really liked this fun addition to the Bookania Quests series!
To be honest, going into it I wasn't thinking that I was going to like it much seeing how I'm not a big fan of Robin but I ending loving it!
It didn't focus on Robin so that's probably a big part of it.
It follows the story of 3 sisters and their father as they fight to be reunited! It's a good light read, with humor and action (a classic book by Kendra)
Plus it's written by a homeschooler so that's a BIG plus ;)
I definitely recommend this book and series!

3.5 stars, rounded to 4

Reasons for rounding up:
-Characterization (I am particularly fond of Robin's "dramatics")!
-The ending; lots of questions answered, people reunited, pasts being untangled, bargains...a lot of juicy stuff going on
-The mix of tales present in all of the Bookania stories; this one in particular had a bit of everything, from Arthur and The Enchanted Stag, to Cinderella and Snow White
-A bit of nitty gritty world building, touching on things that magic can be used for other than giving people amazing skills (I also love the give-take elements of the blessings, it works so well)
-Maryanne's POV!
-Ships. Ships EVERYWHERE and they aren't super cringe-y or saturated with unnecessary elements.

What I didn't like so much:
-Not enough description!! This is just personal preference, but the lack of description is consistent throughout the series. It fits with the old-style fairy-tale feel, with the focus being on the characters and their lives, but...I love description!! (As is evidenced by the use of multiple exclamation points, obviously.) This had the biggest impact on my star rating, as description is what typically helps me to get "into" a story.
-Missing quotation marks (since a majority of the content is dialogue or transition, this made reading certain portions somewhat difficult) This factor was 1/4-1/2 a star for me.

Overall a great MG/YA read, and one I would definitely recommend to lovers of fairy tales.
