Support Congregation Bene Shalom

Congregation Bene Shalom is the first synagogue for the deaf and hearing-impaired in the United States, founded 47 years ago. A pioneering institution, Bene Shalom offers traditional and Kabbalistic services as well as healing prayer. We serve hundreds of Jews of all different hearing abilities in the Chicago area – and we need your help!

In March 2020, Covid 19 arrived. Congregation Bene Shalom felt it prudent to close its doors to in-person services and social activities for the health and safety of our members. We reopened for in-person services in June while continuing to offer our services on Zoom and You Tube.

We welcomed our new rabbi, Charlene Brooks, who had been our cantorial soloist for nearly 30 years and was ordained last summer. Rabbi Char has spent the last half of the year dedicated to bringing us meaningful and uplifting services both, Friday night Shabbat and our monthly Saturday Kabbalah service, leading healing prayer both during services as well as privately. Rabbi Char continues to wear both hats as rabbi and cantor! Have you been to services on-line or in person recently? If not, we encourage you to do so. Rabbi Charlene Brooks shares unique, relevant sermons and music. She brings a feeling of joy and healing to our community.
In the spirit of generosity, abundance and acknowledgment, many people make their end-of-year donations to their favorite nonprofits. We hope that Congregation Bene Shalom will be one of yours! Your end-of-year tax-free donations are very much appreciated and needed.
Please make a tax-deductible gift to Congregation Bene Shalom through the donate button on our website www.beneshalom.com, our Go Fund Me page mail a check or call our office to donate by credit card. Our goal is to raise $50,000.

As a gift to our members and community, on Friday, December 23, Congregation Bene Shalom is hosting a special Chanukah concert featuring Rabbi Charlene Brooks and the Band.

Wishing you, your families and friends a very happy Chanukah and 2023!

Sincerely,

Congregation Bene Shalom Hebrew Association of the Deaf & Hearing
