Armed with hundreds of thousands in grant dollars, public defenders are taking aim at substance abuse problems affecting western Maryland’s criminal defendants.

The Association for the Public Defender of Maryland recently received a $382,000 grant to support its efforts at stemming the substance use disorders its clients frequently experience. The grant, announced Wednesday by CareFirst, will allow APDM to partner with providers in Frederick and Washington counties and help people involved in the criminal justice system.

this is a good idea and program but with the epic crisis taking place in Frederick County the $383k need to have stipulations. Being a 1 shot deal for each given the opportunity for the funds. Repeat offenders are on their own afterwards to give all 1st timers a chance in order to stretch the budget given.
