Bruce L. Precourt, resident of St. Francis and a former longtime resident of Whitefish Bay, passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at the age of 66 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Bruce was a 1988 graduate of University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a bachelor of arts degree in Classics-Greek, and went on to receive his master of arts in Classical Languages & Literatures from the University of Chicago in 1990.

An expert in ancient studies, Bruce was a senior lecturer in the classics department of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where he taught Greek, Roman, and Egyptian mythology from 1992-2017.  Prior to his academic career, he worked for Astronomy and Odyssey magazines from 1980-1984.

Throughout his life he was passionate about science fiction, comic books, ancient mythology – from which most superhero origin stories derived – astronomy, and fine art.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Lyman and Patricia Precourt, sister Dianne (Precourt) Lorenz, and ex-wife and best friend Pamela Cavadias.

In his passing he leaves behind siblings Susan (Precourt) and David Wohl, Laura (Precourt) and Michael Howell; his many nieces and nephews: Jon Wohl, Robert Wohl, Patsy Wohl, Susie Lorenz, Kirby Howell, Gibson Howell, Cael Howell; and great-nephews Jack Wohl and Parker Wohl; as well as numerous friends and former students.

His imaginative spirit and incredible historical knowledge will be missed by his family and all whose lives he touched.

A private family celebration of life will be held in late October 2022.

Memorial tributes in Bruce’s name may be made to the Milwaukee Public Museum, 800 W Wells St, Milwaukee, WI 53233.
