About this event

The Embassy of Switzerland in Washington, D.C. is inviting your school to participate in a Social Design Thinking Competition on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2023.

Interested in bringing about change in your community?

Want to learn about social impact and design thinking?

Curious to hear from Swiss innovation experts?

You bring us the problem… Switzerland will work with you to design a solution.

On Friday, March 31, the Embassy is hosting a creative Design Thinking workshop with selected young women from D.C.-area universities and colleges. Ahead of the workshop, we will ask students to identify a challenge at their school related to at least one of the following UN Sustainable Development Goals: #3 - Good Health and Well-Being; #4 - Quality Education; #5 - Gender Equality. Using the Design Thinking method, we will coach students to create a solution at an in-person workshop. They will then have the opportunity to pitch their ideas to a Swiss jury of experts and win seed funding.

Who is eligible? Washington, DC metro-area female students, enrolled at a local university or college, from all disciplines between the ages of 17 and 30.

How to join:

1. Registration: The Embassy requests that each participating institution be responsible for assembling its own group of participants (3-5) and coordinating their participation. The selected department, course, or student group should indicate their participation by registering on Eventbrite, with the names of group members from your university, by March 23.

2. Preparation: Students identify a challenge at their school related to at least one of the following UN Sustainable Development Goals: #3 - Good Health and Well-Being; #4 - Quality Education; #5 - Gender Equality. Submit the challenge to the Embassy by March 28.

3. Implementation: Join us at the Embassy of Switzerland for the Design Thinking workshop, and a chance to network and learn from Swiss innovation experts on March 31 (9:30am – 4:00pm).
