JEFFERSON CITY (AP) — The director of the Missouri Department of Economic Development plans to resign next month to take a job with Ameren Missouri, Gov. Mike Parson announced Tuesday.
Rob Dixon’s resignation will be effective Oct. 22. Dixon has led the agency since July 2017.
During his tenure, the state announced economic development projects such as the expansion of the General Motors plant in Wentzville, the Nucor steel plant in Sedalia and the U.S. Department of Agriculture headquarters in Kansas City.
Parson said he was confident the team at the economic development department will ensure a smooth transition to a new director. The governor plans to announce an acting director before Dixon leaves in October.
Before becoming director, Dixon served as the President and CEO of the Missouri Community College Association. MCCA is a membership organization for Missouri’s community colleges, providing government advocacy, networking and education resources for its members. It is the largest higher education association in the state, with approximately 2,000 members.
Dixon also served in a variety of roles at the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce. His overall responsibilities included leadership and management of staff and programs in economic and workforce development, public affairs, local government policy, communications, community development and strategic planning. Dixon was the executive director of the Hollister Area of Chamber of Commerce.
Dixon has a master’s degree in public administration from Missouri State University, a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and an Associate of Arts in political science from St. Charles Community College.
