Interdisciplinary Research Grant

Future Call for Proposals TBD

Across the globe, urban environments are confronting numerous challenges related to human health, environmental change, artificial intelligence, migration, and ever-changing social organization. The 2024 Interdisciplinary Research Grant (IRG) is designed to contribute to CUNY’s goal of amplifying the quantity and quality of engaged public impact research and scholarship as outlined in “CUNY Lifting New York.” As a public university, our mission is to serve our urban communities and create knowledge that addresses society’s most pressing needs.

Innovation springs from teams of faculty who have different research backgrounds. We invite interdisciplinary proposals that address scientific and societal challenges through convergent research with clear public impact.

The IRG program will fund projects that join expertise across disciplines and are poised to take advantage of existing external funding opportunities. A minimum of two investigators is required: one PI and one co-PI, ideally from different CUNY colleges, schools, and/or centers. Multi-PI teams are encouraged.

We anticipate funding 6 to 8 awards of $45,000 each with a period of performance starting in January 2024.
