2025 National Western Stock Show Health Screenings

What do we do at the National Western Stock Show?
Colorado Area Health Education Program office provides, on average,1600 adults and children free health screenings at our booth at the National Western Stock Show (NWSS) every January.
The booth provides a unique opportunity for health professions students, faculty, and staff to collaborate at a large interprofessional event each year. Faculty, staff, and student volunteers from across the CU Anschutz campus, including from the schools of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Physician Assistants, Physical Therapy, and Public Health, join us annually. In addition, students and volunteers from Colorado State University School of Veterinary Medicine, Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Regis University’s nursing program, Platt College School of Nursing, and CSU Pueblo work together while improving their communication and clinical skills in an interprofessional environment.
The target population of the event is hard-working individuals from rural and underserved communities; however, all are welcome to participate. Men and women from rural communities are a population that is often difficult to reach because of both the nature of their professions (e.g., ranchers and farmers) and their self-employment status, often leading to scarce insurance coverage. Additionally, rural communities tend to have limited access to healthcare simply due to the lack of providers in their area.
The NWSS provides the perfect setting to educate participants and gather data about their health and wellness at a relatively low cost to the Colorado AHEC Program Office.
Join the nearly 2000 people who volunteer their time to provide free health screens at the NWSS.
