Between everything (*gestures around wildly*) that's going on, we don't blame you if you’re feeling more than anxious rn. Maybe you’ve tried everything from therapy to deep breathing to screaming into the void in order to cope, and you're down to give one more thing the old college try. Enter CBD.You've probably heard a lot about the benefits of CBD, but might be wondering which form to test, how much to take, and what to shop for. To which I’ll say, keep on scrolling, my friend.
First off, let's review the basics: CBD is present in cannabis (the classic marijuana plant), but CBD in its ~purest~ form is usually derived from a cousin of the cannabis plant: hemp. On its own, CBD is not at all psychoactive and definitely not equivalent to THC, aka the stuff in pot that will make you crave Cheetos at 4 a.m. So, uh—what does CBD actually do?
Some studies claim that CBD may reach receptors in the brain that regulate fear and anxious behaviors. “It shows promise as a medication that can reduce anxiety for some people, but additional studies are needed to determine which products, at which doses, are beneficial before the FDA approves it,” says Ryan Vandrey, PhD, Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Johns Hopkins Medicine. At this point, CBD is a supplement to anxiety treatment, so while helpful to some, it's definitely not the magic cure to deep-seated worries and anxiety disorders. *Sigh.*
Right now, there are seemingly millions of CBD products to weed through (heh). You could add literally any CBD gummy, tincture, powder, capsule, etc. on earth to your cart right at this very moment, but don't you want to read our roundup of the best CBD options first? More on that in a sec.
Just note (we'll repeat this about 77 times below, but it's important, people) that you should *never* decide on a CBD regimen or dose without getting the go-ahead from your doc first. Here’s what to else keep in mind about CBD for anxiety, and what products to try in an attempt to chill TF out.
