Letter: Soccer star by the numbers

University of Portland alumnae Megan Anna Rapinoe helped the U.S. team win the championship in two consecutive FIFA Women’s World Cups in 2019 and 2015, the gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics, and finish runners-up at the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Rapinoe celebrated her 34th birthday two days before the U.S. team defeated Netherlands 2-0 in the World Cup final. Captain Rapinoe scored the game-winner goal on a 61st-minute penalty kick, and won the Golden Ball and Golden Boot.

To express my appreciation for Rapinoe’s outstanding performance, I constructed the following birthday curiosities for her:

1. If Rapinoe’s age, 34, is split as 3 and 4, the third and fourth prime numbers, namely 5 and 7, form 7/5, her birthdate.

2. Furthermore, 7 + 5 = 3 x 4.

3. Rapinoe will turn 35 in 2020 and 35 = 7 x 5 (7/5).

4. Rapinoe’s 57th birthday will be special since 57 is 5 / 7.

5. Rapinoe’s birthday in 2057 expressed as 7/5/57 will be a palindrome day.

6. Rapinoe’s 75th birthday will also be special since 75 is 7/5.
