Senior citizens continue to be hardest hit group

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – More than 21,000 Floridians have died of COVID-19, health officials said.

As of Tuesday, 21,188 Florida residents had died of COVID-19, with seniors taking the brunt of the disease, according to the Florida Department of Health.

Here is a breakdown of resident deaths by age group:

  • Ages 4 and younger: 0 deaths
  • Ages 5 to 14: 5 deaths
  • Ages 15 to 24: 34 deaths
  • Ages 25 to 34: 122 deaths
  • Ages 35 to 44: 359 deaths
  • Ages 45 to 54: 859 deaths
  • Ages 55 to 64: 2,423 deaths
  • Ages 65 to 74: 4,691 deaths
  • Ages 75 to 84: 6,638 deaths
  • Ages 85 and older: 7,057 deaths
