About this Program:
We mark Law Day 2022 amidst a global rule of law recession, with public trust in institutions eroding and authoritarianism on the rise in many countries around the world. The World Justice Project’s (WJP) Rule of Law Index draws on surveys of households and legal practitioners in 139 countries to track rule of law trends, and the 2021 Index marked the fourth year in a row in which more countries saw their Index score decline than improve. The United States has dropped every year since 2016, ranking 26th out of 139 countries in the 2021 Index. WJP Executive Director Elizabeth Andersen will share these latest results and invite the audience to discuss the role that lawyers and bar associations can play in rebuilding trust and shoring up the rule of law foundation of our democracy.
Speakers:
Elizabeth Andersen,
Executive Director, World Justice Project
Dean Michael P. Scharf,
CWRU School of Law
Professor Milena Sterio,
Cleveland-Marshall College of Law
